Placement Schedule 2005-06


May 16 Students declare whether they intend to go on the job market and meet with the Placement Committee and the job candidates who have just been through the job process. Other post-generals students meet to get a sense of the procedures and current issues. Candidates begin to line up people to write letters of recommendation.

Placement Committee meets with the current job candidates to discuss preparation of CV's, Work Done at Princeton, and dissertation summary (all prepared by the job candidate). Candidates fill out forms for preparing dossiers and submit lists of those whom they would like to write letters of recommendation. Preparation of dossiers begins; first drafts of CV, WDAP and dissertation summary due with Committee September 29. (Advisers must have seen and approved dissertation summaries in advance of this date.)
   
October 1 (ca.) This is the target date for the completion of dossiers for review by the placement committee and advisers. Job candidates arrange a date for a dissertation talk with the grad rep on the seminar committee. All dossiers must be approved and ready for mailing by October 10.
   
October 11 Jobs for Philosophers is published (on APA website "Member Services"). (Mailed hard copy arrives a day or so later.)
   
October 13 Candidates' preliminary lists due with committee for jobs advertised in October JFP to which they wish their dossiers to be sent. Committee will review and discuss with individual candidates any appropriate proposed alterations to their lists.
   
October 20 Final lists for October JFP job applications due with Placement Assistant. Candidates prepare and mail their applications, including any required or suggested sample of written work and teaching evaluations.
   
October 27 The Placement Assistant mails confidential dossiers.
   
November 10 Second Jobs for Philosophers is published. Process is repeated. Preliminary lists due with committee November 15; final lists due with Assistant November 19; candidates prepare and mail applications and related materials (except dossiers) after final lists are submitted.
   
Late November Mock interviews are scheduled.
   
December 5 Mock interviews begin (if there are many candidates, perhaps even sooner).
   
December 27-30 APA Eastern Division Meetings in New York
